Our earwax removal methods

MICROSUCTION

Microsuction is a safe and gentle way to remove earwax using a small suction device, without the need for water. It works like a tiny hoover, carefully lifting the wax out for a quick and comfortable experience

IRRIGATION

Ear irrigation is a simple and effective way to remove earwax using a gentle flow of warm water. It helps to flush out the wax safely and comfortably

MANUAL INSTRUMENTS

These are specialist tools used to manually remove earwax. These are used for visible earwax in the outer part of the canal and are often used in conjunction with the other methods

We offer three effective and comfortable earwax removal methods. During the appointment, we will assess the level of wax buildup, review your residents medical history and have a discussion around the different methods to determine the most suitable treatment.

Each option will be clearly explained, ensuring you, your resident and any family/friends involved in decision making have all the information needed to make an informed decision. Comfort remains our top priority throughout the process.

Our care home package

Care homes

A large focus for us is being able to offer a mobile earwax removal service that specialises in serving care home residents. We understand that the NHS is underfunded, and waiting times for audiology services can be several months. The first step in accessing audiology services is often having earwax removed, so to help bridge this gap, we provide earwax removal at clinic prices, delivered directly within your care homes.

As not everyone is able to attend a clinic, we bring the clinic to you, offering the same clinic prices without the added cost of a home visit surcharge.

We offer a care home package that includes free, no-obligation earwax checks for all interested residents (and staff!). We then work with the home to offer earwax removal for anyone who chooses to proceed, allowing time for necessary preparations such as olive oil application and any discussions with family or GPs, if needed.

The service is provided at clinic prices by setting up a pop-up clinic within your care home. Please let us know if you would like us to email more information on our full care home package.

In addition to our package, if an individual resident would like an earwax check outside of any scheduled clinic, we can organise this for you at an individual concession price. Again, please contact us for full details.

Get to know us

Hello, we are Gemma & Donna,

The Earwax Ladies.

Before you head to our About Us section, here’s what makes us uniquely suited to care homes and their residents.

With many years of clinical experience coming from an ambulance background, we are experienced in handling a wide range of situations. We pride ourselves on helping people feel calm and comfortable, and we’ve got lots of experience working with vulnerable people and those with different health conditions like Parkinson’s, dementia, or mobility issues. We can easily adapt our service to fit whatever the patient needs—whether they’re in bed or sitting in a chair, we’ll make sure they’re comfortable.

An integral part of our role was understanding the needs of patients, particularly being able to safely and comfortably move them with appropriate manual handling techniques – we’ve done a course or two, or ten! We are fully informed and consistently mindful of consent, capacity, and ensuring that we always act in the patient’s best interests.

Why us?

We’re comfortable working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Not everyone in a care home is elderly - some people have other conditions that require extra care, and we’re more than ready to meet those needs.

Additionally, we are familiar with how care homes operate, so your staff won’t need to supervise us or follow us around.

We are used to working independently in these environments, however, if it’s your (or your residents) preference for staff to chaperone, then that’s fine with us too!

We’re not a big faceless organisation where you get different people each time. It’s just the two of us, so you’ll always get the same friendly faces and that continuity of ongoing care.

We’ll get to know your staff and residents, and hopefully, you’ll invite us back so we can keep building those personal connections.
